HEAVY DUTY & HIGH SPEED MILLING MACHINES

Dean Smith & Grace has recently entered the gantry milling machine market to compliment its range of lathe models, with machine variants aimed at Defence and Aerospace (but not exclusively) industries.

The CNC machine variants cover travelling column/gantry and travelling table machines. These can be specifically designed to suit customer’s requirements.

Machines previously supplied include;
• One CNC travelling gantry vertical spindle (high speed) machine to produce polystyrene patterns for automotive castings.
• One CNC travelling gantry vertical spindle (heavy duty) machine to produce tough steel mining equipment.
• One CNC travelling table twin opposed horizontal spindle machine to produce specialist crane booms.

Following on from the successful design, manufacture, assembly and installation of the above machines during 2008 Dean Smith & Grace (following competition from many European machine tool suppliers) received an order for a heavy duty full 5-axis travelling column/gantry machine with vertical ram spindle configuration.

Brief specification as follows;
5 Axis
X – 12 metres (horizontal)
W - 2.5 metres (vertical)
Y - 7.5 metres (horizontal)
Z – 1.5 metres (vertical).

Worktable 10 metres X 5 metres
Swarf conveyors
Coolant high/low pressure
Interchangable cutting head attachments
(straight, universal and right angle)
Heidenhain TNC 530i CNC control.

The above machine is to be installed in the customer’s works mid 2010.

From the above machine configurations a specification to suit customer’s requirements can be provided, with all the axes strokes and spindle requirements tailored to suit the products to be machined.

Full turnkey engineering can be supplied on application.
